Being Servants of Christ.

What is Serve Day?An opportunity for each person of Joy to live out our vision statement of “Becoming God’s family to bless the world” by participating in a mission outreach event together on one day.

Saturday, February 25, 2012, 8 AM - 1 PM

How do I participate? If you’ve participated in Serve Day in the past, you will find this year’s experience a little different. Joy has adopted a block in downtown Glendale and has committed to repairing and refurbishing several houses that are in desperate need of help and beautifying the adjacent park and surrounding neighborhood.

  • We will all meet at Clavelito Park, 6601 N. 53rd Ave., at 8:30 AM
to sign in and receive instructions.
  • After we serve, we’ll meet back at the park around 1:00 PM to “Rock the Block” with a fun party that includes bouncies for the kids, music, and a hot dog lunch.

We’re asking everyone to bring some or all of the following even if you won’t be using it for the project you sign up for. This will help equip everyone who’s serving!

  • Ladders
  • Wheelbarrows
  • Rakes
  • Brooms
  • Shovels
  • Hammers & Nails
  • Paint Brushes
  • Rollers
  • Roller Pans
  • Paint Scrapers
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Small Buckets or Cans for Trim Paint
  • Gloves
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Ice Chests (please confirm with Serve Day volunteers in the Lobby so we have a count of ice chests)

In addition, we are in need of AZ licensed contractors (active or inactive) to assist with special projects that can only be performed by those with a license. Please provide your name and skill when registering.

You can call the church office at 623-561-0500 or sign up at the table in the Worship Center Lobby in the weeks leading up to Serve Day. Click here to download the project list, fill it out and bring it to the sign up table on Sunday.

Why participate?Because Christ has asked us to go into the world and serve Him. Hebrews 10:24 says, “Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds.” We have found some ways in which you can share your good deeds or outbursts of love. We want to meet real needs, clearly demonstrating the power of God’s love through acts of kindness, outbursts of love and good deeds — no strings attached.
