The Joy Dance Team is an exciting extracurricular program offered at Joy Christian School. The team consists of an auditioned group of 8 – 12 girls, who perform at various school and campus events throughout the course of the year. Being part of the Dance Team promises to be a fun learning experience to enrich one’s dance knowledge, friendships, and most importantly, faith. We exist to serve our Lord Jesus Christ through the gifts He has given us, and reach out to others through our love of dance. As our theme verse, Psalm 149:3, says, "Let them praise His name with dancing."
Girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades may audition for the Joy Dance Team. The auditions are typically held once school resumes at the end of August. Those girls trying out will attend three clinics to learn a short portion of a dance, as well as 2 jumps and kicks to perform at their audition. The auditions are a “closed format”, meaning no one else may be in the room except the judges. The panel of judges score the girls on the following skills: knowledge of steps, showmanship/energy, coordination, rhythmic feel, precision, and jump/ kick capability.
The Joy Dance Team practices twice each week for the entire school year. Team members are encouraged to participate in other JCS sports and activities after school, as our only afternoon rehearsal is held on Mondays at 5 p.m. The other rehearsal takes place during the Middle School Elective time each Wedneseday after Chapel.
We perform at many JCS events, including Chapel services, the Roctoberfest Carnival, the Christmas Program, Basketball games and Pep Rallies, and our Fine Arts Night. Additionally, we strive to share our ministry with others on the Joy Campus, including our Preschool Chapels and the Fiesta Club Luncheon.
Coach Debbie Webb has been the director of the Joy Dance Team for six years.
